Bricklayers at work
The brick and blockwork walls are being taken up to first floor level to prepare for delivery of the precast concrete plank flooring on 09 December. Temperatures are now starting to drop overnight and provision must be made for protecting newly built brickwork from saturation and from frost. The hessian that can be seen in the photograph offers some protection to new mortar from frost damage. Bricks/blocks cannot be laid when the air temperature is at or below 3 degC and the temperature of the work must be maintained above freezing until mortar has fully hardened. The photograph also shows incidental steelwork being installed to frame the larger openings around the main entrance to the new building.
